Being asked to be part of the bridal party as a groomsman is a great honor for many men who are closely related to the bride and groom. There usually being a selection of duties that groomsmen must perform, all in the aim of assisting the groom and bride to prepare and enjoy their wedding day. While there may be some amount of financial commitment(such as the wedding suits) as well as some other important duties.
Duties of Groomsmen
Bachelor Party
The groomsmen work with the best man to plan all aspects of the bachelor party for the groom. They can discuss about it with the groom and find where he prefer to have the party and then the groomsmen can figure out accommodations, activities, and transportation, as well as sharing the costs between each groomsman so the groom’s expenses are covered.
Groomsmen Attire
After a suit or tuxedo style is chosen, it is each groomsman’s responsibility to get fitted before the wedding. Whether all groomsmen are being fitted for suits on the same day or individually, it is best to have all groomsman measurements 2-4 months before the wedding, especially if the wedding is during peak season.
Rehearsals
Some of the wedding may not have rehearsals but if yes, all groomsmen should be at both the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner. This is important to make sure smaller details that could make a big difference are ironed out — think things like pairing groomsmen with bridesmaids, how to behave during the wedding ceremony, where to stand after walking down the aisle and going over the wedding day itinerary.
Get Ready with the Groom
The groomsmen should arrive at groom’s place early to help the groom get dresses, and to ensure he is calm & collected in the hours leading up to “I do.” Do whatever you can to make sure he is feeling great before he walks down the aisle. Also, make sure he eats something and drinks water! Sometimes the groomsmen also drive the groom to the ceremony location. If the groom hire a wedding car, the groomsmen join the same car to the ceremony venue with the groom.
Overall, on the wedding day, each groomsman is responsible for assisting the Best Man and groom leading up to the ceremony.
Greeting and Escorting
Being a point of contact for guests and vendors is also a duty of groomsmen. Groomsmen should greet the guests with groom and help guide guests to their seats before the ceremony, when guests arrive, the groomsmen should ask if they wish to be seated on the bride’s side or the groom’s side before escorting them to their seats and normally also make sure the front rows remain reserved for immediate family. Sometimes groomsmen may also help hand out wedding programs.
Duties of Best Man
While being a groomsman is a great gesture of how important a man is to the marrying couple, being the Best Man is reserved for the individual who has the closest male bond with the groom and will offer support and assistance throughout the entire wedding period. Therefore, the duties that fall into the Best Man responsibilities list include:
